Team White Reaches Championship Game at POW/MIA Classic
This past weekend, Team White participated in the POW/MIA Classic in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This tournament was hosted by the Tulsa Warriors hockey program and brought together both warrior, first-responder, and military affiliated teams with the sole purpose of raising awareness for our nation's POW/MIA service-members. Additionally, this marked the team's first-ever travel tournament since being added as the 6th team in the program in early 2025.
Team White made an incredible statement by battling all the way to the championship game against Air Force. After a thrilling game-tying goal with less than a minute left in regulation, Team White's run ended in a heart-pounding shootout. Though the team came up short, they secured their place as one of the most exciting teams of the entire tournament.
Team members shared how impactful the experience was both on and off the ice. Jim Hellmann, reflected, "great facility, great competition, and a great experience for Team White. I highly recommend that tourney in the future."
Fellow teammate, Daniel Ortwerth added, "For real, Team White discovered its identity, individually and collectively. We are an actual team with a sense of familial loyalty among us. We are already developing a sense of each other on the ice and a rapport off of it. This team has a future. Also, it was a great adventure!"
This tournament not only showcased Team White's talent and resilience but also strengthened the bonds that make the Blues Warriors more than just a hockey program. We are a family united by service, camaraderie, and the love of the game. Congrats to Team White!
